If I Were Noah I’d Build a Yacht
August 20, 2007
It just keeps raining. It rained all day yesterday. Now there are flood warnings. So if this were the first sign of an apocalypse, I’d be getting a yacht and a book on how to play shuffleboard.
My ultra-fab prize from Adam (Mr. Yarn Nerd himself) arrived last week. He was kind enough to dye up the colorway I have been drooling over for months - Printed Circuit Board. I love it so.
My spinning class at Stitch Cleveland on Saturday was awesome. Shannon is super nice and a great teacher. I thought I’d like the double treadle wheel but it turns out I’m a single treadle kinda girl. I had this annoying habit (can it be a habit your first time out?) of spinning counterclockwise. She did get a kick out of my death grip on the roving. I am certainly going to keep at the spinning and get a wheel as soon as I have the funds. I started to get the hang of it and ended up staying a bit longer than I planned just chatting with Shannon. She even signed my “hurt” copy of Spin to Knit.
Here’s what my first handspun yarn looks like.
And I picked up this fabulous ShiBui Sock yarn at the River Color Studio that connects to the Stitch Cleveland shop. All the colors they had in stock were stunning but sadly no Stone colorway. Pebble had to come home with me.
I finished the first Funky Carolina “In the Dark” sock. It fits though it is snug through the gusset. I think it will be ok. Mom was already circling like a vulture with the “well if it doesn’t fit you I will take it” statements. Geez. Two pairs this month apparently isn’t enough.
The Sweet Sheep order is done!!!! Hurray!! It took much less time than I anticipated but it still feels like a huge accomplishment. I should have it mailed tomorrow. I had to get a bigger box. The priority one I had wasn’t big enough.
I have some Halloween colored yarns to skein up over this week. Due to the ongoing deluge of rain, they are taking much longer for the yarn to dry and the current levels of lighting suck for taking yarny pictures. I will put them up in the etsy shop ASAP.

The Yarn Nerd and the Shibui colourways are gorgeous! The Funky Carolina sock is also gorgeous!
And I’m getting soooo excited about spinning….I wonder how my first try would turn out.

Very nice coloways you picked out! Your sock looks really good too, bummer on the fit. Phew, I know you’re happy to ship that box soon! Wished you could send us the rain though, you don’t need anymore and we do!

I think your yarn looks SUPERAWESOME! practice, is all… you’ll be doing Perfect Yarn before you know it. And then you’ll be irritated because you can’t make yourself spin funky… seriously.

Your handspun looks goregous! Keep up the good work. And while you are at it, could you please send some of that excess rain our way. We’ll gladly take it!
