I Conquered Siberia
July 13, 2007
I finished mom’s birthday socks. They were super quick. I would’ve had them done sooner but knitting is hard to get done during the week. I have a million other distractions and things that need done. I’m lucky if I get in a hour a night. All I had left was a wee bit of yarn.
The linen stitch on the heel rocks. I am going to use that one again, perhaps with the purl/wrong side out next time.
I wouldn’t recommend using size 3 needles if you have average size feet and only one skein of glacier. This sock is super squishy and thick; mom squeed a little when she tried on the one. She has to wait a couple more weeks until I officially give them to her.
I ordered some more blank yarn to dye for the shop. The Treadsoft is already here and the merino/tencel is on the way. I’m really excited about the tencel blend. Last time I only ordered a pound and the skein was chock full of knots. Too many knots for self striping yarn. So I dyed up these variegated gems for me instead.
I did manage to dye up two self striping skeins out of the tencel but I accidently ruined the one when I cut the ties during reskeining. I think it was a freudian slip cause who wouldn’t want to keep this?
I finally got a Ravelry account too. It is awesome! I actually discovered my stash holds enough sock yarn to keep me busy for over a year and a half. Yikes! I guess the Barbie picture was accurate.

Hi, I just found my way over here from the Cider Moon blog. I was wondering about your comment that you wouldn’t use Sz 3 needles for Glacier if you only have one skein. I have several skeins – some I plan to use for sz 7 women’s feet and some for sz 11 men’s, which I am assuming I probably need to use a contrasting color for the toes and heel to have enough yarn. But I only have one skein in each color. So would you go up in needle size for both? I’d appreciate any suggestions you have. Thanks!
